PASALTA MAGAZINE

Brought to you by Fruiter Press.

Established Feb 2026

Pasalta is a community-driven literary project dedicated to the voices of the Pasadena and Altadena area. We aren’t looking for academic polish; we’re looking for the "honest and the real." Whether it’s poetry written on a Metro bus, a short story inspired by the San Gabriel shadows, or art that captures the grit of our local streets—this is your home.

What is Pasalta Magazine?

Pasalta is a hyper-local initiative of Fruiter Press, the independent publishing house behind the internationally focused Low Hanging Fruit Magazine.

While our primary publication, Low Hanging Fruit Magazine, looks outward to the global literary scene, Pasalta looks inward. It is a project of proximity, seeking exclusively local writers and artists from the Pasadena and Altadena area. Our goal is to curate the "honest and the real" into an annual print anthology, with our inaugural volume debuting this year.

The Mission
We are here to bridge the gap between the street and the page. We prioritize new and emerging voices—the writers currently working in the shadows—though we warmly welcome the work of veterans who call this valley home. Whether you are sending your first poem or your fiftieth, we want to see the world through your lens.

Grassroots & Independent
Pasalta is currently led by Kalvin M. Madsen, Editor-in-Chief of Fruit Press and Pasadena Resident. We operate without corporate sponsorship, fueled entirely by a passion for local promotion and independent publishing.

Get Involved:

Submit: We hope to include your voice in our first anthology.

Collaborate: We are actively seeking local editors and residents who want to help shape the future of this project.
