big wonders by Rosella Weigand

oh I wonder

if you and I are watching

the same stars in the sky tonight

and I wonder

if one was to fall,

would it land where you stand

or would I have to catch it in my hand

does the wind that blows in my direction

touch your face first before it passes me by

are we greeted each morning by the same sunlight,

just at different times

and if lightning never strikes the same place twice,

why does it seem like you feel the exact same spark,

the exact same thunderclap,

as I every single time

is it all in my head,

some fantasy of my heart

to actually believe in such things,

such unbelievable make-believes

or is it true

are they real,

all of these threaded, intangible connections,

tethered links that refuse to break

are they holding onto me or I onto them

I'm not sure I know enough yet

to know how I should truly feel

so still, the wheels keep spinning

going round and round

like the world we once shared

once upon a time,

one that grows more distant

each passing day,

of my life
