Goblin Slaves by A J Dalton

Look, you know full well what they’re like:

twisting words and half-truths, those magpie thieves;

enforced servitude, therefore

well, it’s all they’re good for.

Even then, keep a close eye

else they steal the very chair from under you

and the food from your parlour

all the while blaming evil weevils.

They’ll replace your babe, changeling-wise

ending your line and cursing your name

till everything you see, say and do

is dashed, blighted, and ruined.

And your very house will come down round your ears,

and they’ll keen and wail to no avail

their every effort to help

only burying you under.

So you’d be wise not to disagree

or say they should go free:

they’re just not worth the bother

unless you’re a goblin-lover.
