Google Earth Erased My Home by Rebecca Agauas

Google Earth erased my home from its maps.
One day it was there, the next day it was gone.
The mobile home we lived in for 12 years was ripped from its lot, like the love we created there was ripped from my heart.
The feral cats we took care of who were not so feral anymore, no longer have a safe haven.
No more hugs from my favorite babies, who are no longer babies but growing kids turning into mature and caring human beings.
The lilac bush is ripped from its roots, no longer filling my room with its sweet aroma when my bedroom window is open during the summertime.
The breeze going through the living room wrapping me with warmth and love and dances with me as Coltrane cries out through the record player.
I can smell the pot roast and apple pie as I walk up the sidewalk. I can’t even reach the door without being smacked in the face with the delicious smell.
You, sitting at your sewing table, making your latest and greatest creation for me to wear. My friends jealous and envious of the beautiful work you create, for me, with love.
Is there anything better than peeking around the corner and seeing you smile? I think not.
Google may have erased our home, but it hasn’t erased our love.
